A heartbreaking, last-second 2-1 loss to Colorado Storm did little to dull the luster of great team play by the emergent U-11 Boys Silver team. Coach John Dooley was all smiles after a vastly improved performance by his hard-fighting lads. After a tense, scoreless first half in which neither team dominated play, Colorado Storm finally broke through early in the the second period. To their credit, the Crush maintained their composure and fought hard to press the attack by winning balls all over the field. Their effort culminated in a tying goal by Gustavo Garcia set up by patient build up in the opposing half and a low cross by Marcus Gore. Vail Crush almost doubled their tally moments later when a fierce strike by Cade Cyphers went inches wide. The waning minutes were trying for both sides, as exhaustion crept in. With no time remaining, and the final whistle on the lips of the referee, Vail sent a goal kick into play, only to see it deflected to the foot of an opposing player who made no mistake with a high, hard ball to the right corner giving valiant keeper Chris Lopez no chance. Despite the loss, the team can take heart that their renewed focus in practice and outstanding effort on the field will certainly see them through to winnings results. Way to go team!
